Building resilience for Government and Defence organisations in 2021

The past 12 months have been a challenging year for security professionals everywhere. But in particular for government and defence organisations battling the growing intensity and sophistication of cyber threats in a year heavily influenced by the pandemic, leaving many battered and bruised.

This year is set to be equally challenging as cyber criminals continue to exploit ‘pandemic fear’ to launch COVID-related phishing attacks and scams. While in the US, the full impact of the recent cyber attacks on government agencies and companies is still being felt. President Joe Biden has stated that, “a good defense isn’t enough” and the need to “disrupt and deter our adversaries from undertaking significant cyber attacks in the first place”.

He’s right of course. Government and critical infrastructure organisations must remain defiant in the face of attack and take a more uncompromising approach to cybersecurity. There’s no excuse to raise the white flag of surrender! These attacks, state-sponsored or otherwise, highlight the limitations of maintaining a cyber status quo and the need to take a very different approach to the red flags of cyber risk.

We will be discussing the challenges and offering practical advice later this month in an interactive webinar on ‘Building cybersecurity resilience in 2021’ aimed at government and defence cyber practitioners and hosted by Menlo with partner OPSWAT, a leader in Critical Infrastructure Protection.

During the session, an impressive line-up of industry leaders will share their experiences of building and maintaining resilience for critical infrastructure and partner and supplier ecosystems. Lt. Gen Philip Jones CB CBE DL shares his unique insights into resilience, while Paul Chichester, Director of Operations at NCSC, will discuss ‘Protecting critical assets – prioritising resources for 2021’. Other invited speakers and topics include:

    • The Strategy of Safe Cyber Sharing – John Spicer, CTO & Co-Founder, Nteligen

    • Identifying red flags for infrastructure risk – current insights from Menlo Threat Labs– Kowsik Guruswamy, CTO Menlo Security

    • Why secure content is king for operational resilience– Ian McGowan, MD & Founder, Barrier Networks
