New Feature for Spanning Backup for Office 365: Encryption Key Management

Self-managed encryption keys are a known best practice for securing SaaS and cloud data. As the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) states, “The use of cryptographic mechanisms is one of the strongest ways to provide security services for electronic applications and protocols and for data storage.”

Spanning Backup for Office 365 now supports this best practice by enabling customers to generate and supply their own encryption keys. With this new feature, Spanning customers have full control over their data, and will be able to audit key usage, set key rotation policies and revoke access to data at any time — making all encrypted data unreadable.
