Apple Mum on 128 Million Users Hack
September 21, 2015, happened to be a big day for Apple. Not because they had to launch a new product. It was because they had to choose if they wanted to announce 128 million Apple users were hacked or be silent about it.
According to Ars Technica, researchers found 40 App Store apps to be malicious which eventually rose to 4,000 as more researchers dug into it. These apps were contaminated with malicious code to steal Apple users’ sensitive information. Moreover, these applications were created using a fake copy of Xcode, Apple’s application development tool, by the developers.

As per the email revealed by Epic Games which entered into court recently, on September 21, 2015, Apple had found 2,500 malicious applications on the App Store. Moreover, 128 million users had downloaded those applications in a total of 203 million times!
“Joz, Tom, and Christine- since there may be a lot of customers, do we want to email them all?” – says an email from store manager Matthew Fischer to Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Vice President of Global Marketing, Tom Neumayr, and Christine Monaghan, both Apple’s PR.
The email also further revealed that Bagwell discussed sending emails to all the affected users. Also to mention the names of the malicious applications. Surprisingly, they never sent an email to the users regarding the same.
