2020 Will Be The Year Of Security Validation by Major General Earl Matthews USAF (Ret)

The year 2020 is now firmly underway, and C-level executives are increasingly aware of a disturbing phenomenon: No matter how much money they throw at bolstering cybersecurity defenses, attackers keep devising new ways to compromise corporate networks and devices, putting organizations’ brand reputation and financial position at risk.

Unfortunately, companies assume that their investments will pay off—but the truth is they have no way of knowing which security controls are working and which are not. And the continued enterprise migration to the cloud exacerbates the problem: Cloud-based systems and the proliferation of “bring your own device” (BYOD) and IoT devices broaden the attack surface. This year, I believe we’ll see organizations shift their focus and invest in tools to validate security effectiveness and rationalize their investments.
