Сhatbots became a new trend and a large number of financial institutions are actively applying them both for improving general customer service and for providing their customers with new financial services. Banks and insurance companies can benefit a lot from the new option, but other financial services can successfully implement them as well. And, of course, AI technologies play crucial role here as well.
Take Kasisto, which is based on an AI platform called KAI. The platform can create chatbots that are capable of communication with clients, making payments and reviewing account details.
Paypal has also developed an AI-driven customer service chatbot running through Facebook messenger. The chatbot is meant for asking users to login each time they use the application to access personal data. Also, the application can answer almost any question related to the client’s PayPal account. What is more, the developers claim to have implemented an ML technology that can detect fraud and mitigate potential risks.
AI tool detects dogs suffering from chronic pain

When it comes to human health, smart technologies break new ground there. But it doesn’t stop here. Researchers from the University of Surrey have come up with an AI tool that can also help our furry friends. Its implementation may ease the process of identification a chronic disease in Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (CKCS) making dogs suffer from a longtime pain.
The technique helped the researchers identify certain biomarkers, and after that the team made an analysis of the facial changes in several breeds prone to Chiari-like malformation (CM). Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is one of the breeds that often suffers from this malformation causing deformity of the skull, and the neck. In rare instances, the disease even can lead to spinal cord damage. The main issue that raises here is that pain caused by CM can not be easily diagnosed by veterinarians. In a paper published by Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, the researchers from Surrey’s Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP) and the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM), described the ways of identification of dogs suffering from CM-caused using automated, image mapping method.
The team managed to identify features typical for the differences in the MRI images of dogs with pain associated with CM and those with spinal cord damage from healthy animals. Among the parameters, there was the floor of the third ventricle and its close neural tissue, and the sphenoid bone region.
Besides Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, there are other breeds that suffer from CM, including Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers, Pomeranians and other toy breeds.
Smart technologies can identify 200 species of birds

If you are in search for a new hobby, why don’t you try birdwatching? What is more, now with the help of AI technologies, it becomes possible to identify about 200 different species of birds. The researchers from Duke University taught a tool on more than 11,000 photos. The machine was demonstrated various birds with certain patterns that are specific for a particular species.
Along the way, it spits out a series of heat maps that essentially say: ‘This isn’t just any warbler. It’s a hooded warbler, and here are the features — like its masked head and yellow belly — that give it away.

According to the researchers, the mechanism could correctly identify the bird species 84% of the time. The team consisted of Duke computer science Ph.D. student Chaofan Chen, Duke undergraduate Oscar Li, team members from the Prediction Analysis Lab, and Duke professor Cynthia Rudin.

If you still think that the only purpose of AI is business, you are not quite right. For example, smart technologies can bear you company in a chess and poker play. And keep in mind that there is no guarantee that you will score a win!
