SquareX at Hacker Summer Camp: Black Hat USA 2024 Day 2
Wrapping up the conference before we move on to DEF CON 32

As the sun rose over Las Vegas, Team SquareX kicked off the second day of Black Hat USA 2024 bright and early at 10 AM, ready for another exciting day at the renowned cybersecurity conference.
With Booth SC421 set up and the team energized, we were prepared to engage with the wave of visitors that would soon fill the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

Product Education and Community Engagement
Much like our first day, Day 2 saw a steady stream of visitors eager to learn about SquareX and our browser-native security solution. Our team members had insightful conversations with a diverse mix of professionals — from cybersecurity beginners to seasoned pentesters — and we were glad for the chance to share our vision of a browser-native security solution.

The interest in our solution remained high, with many visitors intrigued by the real-time threat detection and mitigation capabilities that SquareX offers. The event was also a chance for us to conduct product education — about how traditional Secure Web Gateways (SWGs) are insufficient in protecting employees in today’s threatscape.
SquareX Booth: Buzzing with Activity
Day 2 also brought associates, old friends and fans to our booth — it was a pleasure to host Steve Wylie from Informa Tech and SquareX advisor, along with Nullcon Co-founders Aseem Jakhar and Antriksh Shah.

Just like the first day, we conducted a lucky draw where the winner walked away with a set of Apple AirPods — adding an element of fun for attendees.

In the Media Spotlight
In addition to the booth activities, our founder Vivek Ramachandran took time out for an interview with Information Security Media Group (ISMG), an intelligence and education firm focused exclusively on cybersecurity and Information Technology.
In the interview, Vivek shared with host Michael Novinson on the limitations of Secure Web Gateways and how they leave enterprise wide open to web attacks. It was an insightful conversation about browser security, with both parties discussing the technical challenges and architectural flaws in SWGs, and what enterprises should do.

Wrapping Up and Moving Forward to DEF CON
As the hours flew by, we found ourselves at the close of Black Hat USA 2024. It was a whirlwind experience, packed with learning, networking, and spreading the word about browser security and SquareX. We’re proud of the positive feedback we received and the strong connections we made over the course of the event.

But the journey doesn’t end here. We’re now headed to DEF CON 32, the next segment of Hacker Summer Camp, where we’ve got something very special lined up.
As hinted in media interviews over the past two days, our founder Vivek will be delivering a main stage talk titled “Breaking Secure Web Gateways (SWG) for Fun and Profit.” In this talk, SquareX will unveil the “Last Mile Reassembly Attacks,” a groundbreaking technique that, as of this writing, can bypass every SWG listed in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for SASE and SSE.

This research will shake things up in the industry, but that’s our aim — to compel SWG vendors to rethink cloud-based client-side web attack detection models, and for enterprises to rethink how they look at securing their users against web threats.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our journey at DEF CON 32. If you’re attending, be sure to find us at Level 1, Hall 3, Booth 3 at the Las Vegas Convention Center from August 9–11. Otherwise, be sure to follow us for more updates!
