About Level:Up
SE Labs ran a second year of its Level:Up cyber security education programme, partnering with local schools to provide a thorough cyber security overview specifically created for key stage 4 and key stage 5 students.
Our Level:Up programme provides relevant information to students interested in cyber security, or computer science in general. By providing specific learning modules and exercises in line with the industry, students gain an understanding of what it takes to have a career in cybersecurity.
Why Level:Up?
From our observations of the education system, particularly within the UK’s secondary education sector, tactics prove too ineffective in preparing students for a career in cybersecurity. There is too much emphasis on theory and little to no practical experience.
There appears to be little direct assistance in preparing students for the specific duties they would fulfil in the industry. It is difficult to find a specific pathway to begin a career within the cyber security industry.
The goal of our Level:Up programme is to not only provide students with some of the tools necessary to succeed in the cyber security industry but to also provide information in line with the requirements of further study.
The second year of our Level:Up programme was a resounding success. We ran the programme for five days and had seven students from local schools take part.
How to Apply
If you are interested in applying for next year’s Level:Up programme, you will need to send a cover letter to [email protected], explaining why you would be a suitable candidate for the programme and why you want to partake. The cover letter shouldn’t be longer than one page.
