Hype Cycles are a graphic representation of the maturity and adoption of technologies and applications, and how potentially relevant they are to solving real business problems and exploiting new opportunities, published to help Gartner’s clients prioritize technology investments.

In the report, Gartner emphasizes two key factors for online enterprises that continue to increase:
- The percentage of bot traffic hitting online applications.
- The sophistication of bots being used to target business apps.
CAPTCHA Concerns
As common tools used to mitigate malicious bots, CAPTCHAs are a key concern noted in the report, with some organizations worried about added friction for end-users. The recommendation is that users should assess how reliant a bot management solution is on using CAPTCHAs to assess false positives, as well as what the CAPTCHA experience looks like, before moving forward.
Other advice includes aligning with internal UX stakeholders before implementing a solution and saying no to any approach that leans on mandatory CAPTCHA solving.
