A Day In the Life with Product Manager, Melissa Espinal

Welcome to the “Day in the Life” blog series. Here we will feature interviews with Swimlaners to learn more about their experience. This series will give you a preview of Swimlane, our culture, and the people who keep us going.

Meet Melissa Espinal, one of the talented Product Managers here at Swimlane.

How long have you been with Swimlane?

It will be a year at the end of June.

What does your job entail?

As a product manager, I get to work with some of the smartest people on the planet to bring an amazing product to market.

What do you enjoy most about working at Swimlane?

The people. Everyone puts their heart and soul into what we’re building each and every day and it makes it exciting to go to work. There is never a dull moment or a bad day.

What excites you most about your work?

Each day is different. But beyond that, I know that what we’re bringing to the market really is helping to make our world a safer, more secure place.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

When I’m not a softball mom, I am slowly, but surely learning guitar. I also crochet blankets for my friends (about 2 a year). I love to get outside and go for a hike or a trip in a kayak, and in the summer I like to get to the beach as often as possible! You will also never hear me say no to a chance to hear live music.

Are there any clubs, volunteer/awareness groups, or social movements you’re passionate about?

When I have time, I volunteer with local animal rescues. As a parent, I believe it’s important to be involved with my kids and their school, so I’ve been a PTO board member for the last 5 years.

What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

I love animals and have a new passion for saving birds.

Your motto or personal mantra:

No time like the present.

Three words that best describe you:

Witty, energetic, dependable.

What Swimlane core value resonates with you the most?

“Always be leveling up”. As a recovering perfectionist, this one really speaks to me. It’s not about always being perfect, it’s about always being better and improving. Combine that with our other core values and there is nothing we can’t do.
