Award-winning Cybersecurity Effectiveness Podcast kicks off new series, Women in Cyber, featuring female changemakers in cybersecurity

March 8th is International Women’s Day, a day to recognize women’s achievements while also marking a call to action for women’s equality. From its first gathering in 1911, International Women’s Day has grown into a global movement celebrated through political rallies, conferences, and networking events across the world. At Verodin, we are continuing the rally in our own way by celebrating this momentous day with the kick-off of our new podcast series, Women in Cyber.

For those of us in the cybersecurity industry, we know that we have a workforce problem that goes beyond finding the right talent. What we have is a gender problem. In fact, according to Cybersecurity Ventures, women represent only 20% of the global cybersecurity workforce! And while 2019’s number is an increase from 2013’s statistics that found women made up a mere 11% of this sector, it’s still a far cry from where we need to be.

The bottom line is that cybersecurity needs women. Why? For starters, a diverse workforce is important, especially in cybersecurity. Our job is to identify the threat actors who come from a wide range of backgrounds, so the more diversity we have in our industry, the better equipped we are at finding threats and preventing an attack or breach. Additionally, we need to inspire and show the next generation – our daughters, nieces, and grandchildren – that tech is not just for men. To get there, we need to close the gender gap and change the perception NOW.

Over the years, my Verodin colleagues and I have actively championed for more women in cyber. From our now annual blog to celebrate Ada Lovelace Day and through our award-winning  Verodin Cybersecurity Effectiveness Podcast, we have featured some of the most powerful women in the science and tech community. For instance, our podcast guests have included the likes of Parry Aftab, nationally recognized privacy lawyer and policy advisor; Mackenzie Brown, detection and response team consultant for Microsoft; and Deneen DeFiore, Senior Vice President and Global Chief Information and Product Security Officer of GE Aviation. And because our goal is also to inspire young women and students, my daughter Athena Contos has also been a podcast guest, speaking against cyber bullying.

Today, we now have one of the largest Internet collections of interviews with leading women in cybersecurity, and to kick off and celebrate International Women’s Day, over the next few weeks, we will be releasing new and previously featured interviews with leading women and thought leaders in our industry. Our first series of podcasts will be made available on Monday, March 9.

Visit here to subscribe to the Verodin Cybersecurity Effectiveness Podcast, winner of the 2020 Cybersecurity Excellence Awards in the category of best cybersecurity podcast for a company with 1,000 to 4,999 employees, and gain insights from some of the most powerful women in cyber.
