In April, nCipher Security issued its 2019 Middle East Encryption Trends Study from the Ponemon Institute. The study, which pulled from 340 IT security professionals in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, was part of nCipher’s larger 2019 Global Encryption Trends Study. It found that that emerging technologies such as the internet of things (IoT) and Docker containers are being deployed at a growing rate throughout the Middle East, as is the use of the cloud. As the use of these technologies grows, so do the potential security risks associated with them. Consequently, organizations in the Middle East are increasingly adopting encryption to protect data from internal and external threats.
nCipher executives recently discussed the ramifications of these findings during GISEC, the largest cybersecurity exhibition and conference in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. During the conference, nCipher Security’s EMEA regional sales director Philip Schreiber was interviewed by Emirates News, with the interview airing on Dubai One TV.
“The most encouraging finding in the Middle East region was enterprises having a consistent enterprise-wide data protection strategy…we now find that Middle East enterprises are comparable with global enterprises for having this strategy in place.”
“We find for the first time that employee mistakes account for the majority of data breaches…Ten years ago, this would have been either malicious insiders or external hackers. Now as to what can be done about this, this is primarily an awareness and a training program.”
