NCCoE has recently released the second draft of the NIST Cybersecurity Practice Guide SP1800-12, Derived PIV Credentials. For organizations that provide access to federal systems, the PIV standard is a common term. In an effort to enhance security, this standard wants to ensure organizations are providing strong authentication to PIV-compatible desktops and laptop computers. But with the move to mobile, organizations have run into a problem: Mobile computing platforms such as your employee’s iPad or mobile phone, don’t have PIV card readers. And so as more and more users work out in the field or remotely, having a PIV mobile solution is crucial.
