PCI Board of Advisors Election Results Released
With the release of PCI version 2.0 last October and the first formal v2.0 feedback period coming up in November this new Board has their work cut out for them. Also on their plate will be advising on virtualization, touchless payment, mobile payment, encryption, tokenization, scoping, and several other emerging payment technologies. One of the key roles of the Board of Advisors (BoA) will be to provide feedback, guidance and insight into future changes of the PCI standards. The keystone of PCI is the PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), which provides a framework for developing a robust payment card data security process: including prevention, detection and appropriate reaction to security incidents.
The BoA consists of 14 elected members and 7 appointed members for a grand total of 21 companies. The board seats are then broken up into these categories: Financial Institutions; Merchants; Processors; Vendors, and Others. There was quite a bit of turn over on the BoA this year with several new faces to shake things up a bit. However, many of the industry leaders will be returning as well. Here are the names of the companies that were recently elected by the more than 600 PCI participating organizations.
Barclaycard, British Airways, Cartes Bancaires, Cielo, Cisco, Citi, Disney, European Payments Council, First Data Corporation, Heartland Payment Systems, Ingenico, International Air Transport Association (IATA), JPMorgan Chase & Co, McDonald’s, PayPal, RSA, Tesco Stores Limited, TSYS, VeriFone Systems, Inc., Wal- Mart Stores, Inc. and Woolworth’s.
According to the official Announcement from the PCI council;
The new Board will kick off its work in June with its first face-to-face meeting with Council management. As the Council prepares for the annual Community Meetings, the board will be instrumental in this forum for engaging stakeholders to discuss and provide input on their implementation of the newest versions of the PCI Security Standards. Additionally, the board will play a leadership role in driving the first formal feedback period in the current lifecycle beginning in November, working with Participating Organizations to solicit their feedback for the ongoing enhancement of the standards.
My colleague Christian Janoff and I will be representing Cisco and our customers on the Board of Advisors. A big part of our role on the BoA is to represent you all so please feel free to contact me or any of the other board members, or post a comment here with any issues, concerns, feedback, etc. you have about PCI. The next board meeting will be in June followed by the U.S. community meeting in September. Remember that any participating organization can attend the community meetings so I hope to see you there! Last but not least, congratulations to all the newly elected Board members.
