How to Prepare for Salesforce Data Recovery Service End-Of-Life

Tick-tock! Time is running out. Salesforce Data Recovery Service is reaching its end-of-life as it retires on July 31, 2020.

What does that mean for Salesforce administrators?

Admins will no longer be able to use this ‘last resort’ process where Salesforce used to recover lost data. Businesses will have to fend for themselves against Salesforce threats coming from all directions.

Why Is Salesforce Data Recovery Service Retiring?

When the price of your backup service goes at a flat rate of 10,000 USD (for the one business that’s being recovered), and it takes a minimum of six to eight weeks to complete the backup process without a guarantee of 100 percent data recovery — you can expect more than a few unhappy customers. And that’s exactly what happened.

Salesforce did not see the point of continuing with the Data Recovery Service since it failed to meet the high standards for customer experience due to the cost and time associated with retrieving data.

What Native Backup Options Are Offered by Salesforce?

Data Recovery Service was the only legitimate Salesforce native option available to get your data back if you didn’t have an alternate backup solution. Now that it’s on its way out, the native offerings from Salesforce have shrunk.

  • Data Export Service. Manual or scheduled exports of your data. The export can be scheduled and then manually downloaded when ready. In the event of a user-inflicted data loss, users will have to manually restore the data.
  • Data Loader. A client application for manual, on-demand, bulk exports of your data. Restoration of lost or corrupted data would be manual.
  • Report Export. Manual on-demand exports of your data via reports.

The word ‘manual’ gives a clear indication of how all these options are time-consuming, complex and labor-intensive.

Achieve a Zen State of Mind With Spanning

Administrators have gone through their share of sleepless nights to come up with a strategy(s) to protect their data and business once the Data Recovery Service retires.

Native options by Salesforce won’t cut it. Apart from being time-consuming, they don’t offer much granular control and the restoration process is clunky. If not native options, then what? That’s the real dilemma for admins as they approach D-Day.

No one understands the limitations of native options better than Salesforce. That’s why Salesforce openly recommends using partner backup solutions as part of building an effective Salesforce backup and recovery strategy.

Spanning Salesforce Backup protects your business and your customers in case of a data loss incident at your end. Spanning is trusted by more than 10,000 businesses for its unique ability to enable administrators and end users to find and restore data to its original state in just a few clicks.
