Women in Cyber Podcast Series: Who is CSN? by Kristin Judge
In March 2017, Kristin Judge founded The Cybercrime Support Network (CSN) as a public-private nonprofit collaborative. The goal of the organization is simple: to provide recovery support for victims of cybercrime.
In order to meet the cybercrime recovery needs of consumers and small businesses, CSN works alongside federal, state and local law enforcement partners and consumer protection agencies. With the collaboration of these partners, CSN powers FraudSupport.org, a cybercrime and online fraud recovery resource database. Last year, FraudSupport guided over 378,000 visitors through the steps of cybercrime recovery.
CSN is working to build 211 cybercrime support hotlines state-by-state, with the ultimate goal of expanding nationwide. The 211 cybercrime support lines utilize the pre-existing 211 infrastructure utilized by United Way and other organizations to provide immediate, 24/7 cybercrime recovery assistance to those in need. Currently, the lines are live in Rhode Island; Kent County, Michigan; and Central Florida. Funding has been secured for the next phase of the expansion in North Carolina, New Jersey, and Mississippi.
Currently, CSN is in the process of working with partners to develop a State, Local, Tribal and Territorial (SLTT) Reporting and Threat Information Sharing Pilot. CSN will create a standardized reporting structure to gather cybercrime victim complaints and share cybercrime data with SLTT and Federal agencies with authority to act on the complaint. This initiative is made possible by a $1 million cooperative agreement awarded to CSN from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
In 2018, $2.71 billion dollars in financial losses were reported by cybercrime victims to the FBI/IC3. In an ever-changing cyber world, Judge and her team are dedicated to helping victims report, recover, and reinforce their cybersecurity.
