Key Sessions to Look Forward to

  1. Disney DevOps—SRE Magic for Business, Technology and Talent
First off, Disney’s presentations are always the best. As one of the world’s most powerful brands in the world, we look forward to learning about how the company is using DevOps to meet the fast-changing needs of their business. We know it’s not just magic that keeps a brand on top!

  2. Blue, Bold, Brave—Bank of New Zealand DevOps Journey in Delivering Business Value
This group probably traveled the farthest to the conference, so it’ll be one presentation you won’t want to miss. And it’s always inspiring to hear the story behind a company’s DevOps transformation initiative.

  3. Waterfall to DevSecOps in DoD
Most people might wonder: is DevOps possible in government agencies? It’ll be interesting to hear how the DoD is fighting for digital transformation in the government sector and adopting DevOps to build better defense software.

  4. Expanding DevOps Principles to Large Complex Solutions
Applying DevOps principles to large, complex problems is the holy grail of DevOps. We anticipate for this to be a fascinating talk on the applicability of DevOps beyond software.

  5. Corey Quinn Presentation — Enough said, because it’s Corey Quinn!

Learn from the Best

If you’re looking to get more face time, you’ll have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with world-renowned DevOps pioneer and best-selling author, Sanjeev Sharma. We’ll also be giving out free copies of “The DevOps Adoption Playbook: A Guide to Adopting DevOps in a Multi-Speed IT Enterprise.” Don’t forget, we’re at booth 510.

Top Trending Topics

  1. People, Teams, then Tech
DevOps has always been about empowering people and improving direct interactions between groups, but so many companies have struggled to put the right organizational supports in place. As a result, an anti-pattern of silos building has been occurring between DevOps-enabled teams. We anticipate there will be a number of conversations focused on inter-team dynamics and supportive organizational structures.

  2. Continuous/Automated Testing
Last year, there was quite a bit of noise around databases on the main stage and in various plenary sessions. We’ve also seen a lot of movement in the test automation space in the last year. Expect to hear about the implementation of automated testing and how you aren’t actually doing continuous delivery without it. There will be a lot of attention on test coverage and data bottlenecks.

  3. AI, ML, Analytics as a Part of DevOps
AI, ML, and analytics have continued to dominate the hype over the last couple of years. While there’s been a lot of play by vendors to try and co-op the DevOps conversation and momentum, what’s at the heart of these systems? Data. As these companies look to get you hooked on the term DataOps, remember that DataOps expands across your entire data estate, including analytics, AI/ML, appdev, and more. Look for the insertion of these topics into mainstage and plenary sessions.

  4. Observability is Not Monitoring
As we tend to find with the DevOps celebrity trend of “hot takes,” a big kerfuffle has been brewing over the contrast (or lack thereof) of observability and monitoring. We can see both sides of the argument, as nobody seems to define these things uniformly. Our opinion? We agree that looking at performance and experience post-mortem is not a great way to deliver great UX. Expect to hear some speakers make their case for differentiation of the new buzzword; some are spending big money on this year’s conference.

  5. k8s, k8s, k8s
While Docker’s open source technology is still a very important part of the container ecosystem, Kubernetes is getting a lot more attention. It’s really become the industry standard for deploying containers in production, so it should be no surprise that it’ll be a hot topic at DOES.
