Tim Buntel, Threat Stack VP of Application Security Products

Tim Buntel is VP of Application Security Products at Threat Stack. Prior to this role, Tim has built globally recognized software businesses for 20 years at startups, midsized companies in transition, and the largest global brands, including Atlassian, Adobe, Microsoft, and XebiaLabs with an emphasis on developer tools and platforms; helping developers build better software. He is also a founding mentor and Board member at Smarter in the City, a non-profit high-tech accelerator with a mission to diversify Boston’s startup sector by providing support and resources for local minority-run ventures.

Eric Sheridan, Chief Scientist, WhiteHat Security

Eric credits his past career experience as an application security consultant with giving him the real-world, boots-on-the-ground experience to recognize the importance of source code analysis at scale. This ultimately led to the development of the Static Application Security Testing (SAST) engine that serves as the foundation of WhiteHat Sentinel Source. As the Chief Scientist of the Static Code Analysis division at WhiteHat Security, Eric oversees all research and development for Sentinel Source and related products, defining and driving the underlying technology. Eric takes pride in being able to support meaningful security analysis of a variety of static and dynamic programming languages, such as Java, JavaScript, C# and PHP. Under Eric’s guidance, the Sentinel Source R&D team takes a no-nonsense approach to providing continuous product updates to customers in a fast and efficient manner, a process that serves as a model for other development teams across the company. Eric also leads the WhiteHat Certified Secure Developer (WCSD) program, a free training program designed to educate and certify developers on secure coding and application security best practices.Prior to joining WhiteHat, Eric co-founded Infrared Security, specializing in application security and next-generation static analysis technologies that were ultimately integrated within WhiteHat Sentinel Source. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with a track in security from Towson University.

Rick McElroy, Security Strategist,  Carbon Black

Rick McElroy, security strategist for Carbon Black, has more than 15 years of information security experience educating and advising organizations on reducing their risk posture and tackling tough security challenges. He has held security positions with the U.S. Department of Defense, and in several industries including retail, insurance, entertainment, cloud computing, and higher education.

McElroy’s experience ranges from performing penetration testing to building and leading security programs. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), a Certified Information Security Manager (CSIM), and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC). As a United States Marine, McElroy’s work included physical security and counterterrorism services.

A fierce advocate for privacy and security who believes education and innovation are the keys to improving the security landscape, McElroy is program chair for the Securing Our eCity Foundation’s annual CyberFest, a San Diego event dedicated to educating public and private sector security and IT professionals and business executives on the realities of security.
