5 Things to Do at This Year’s Gartner IAM Summit

Special offer: Register with priority code “IAM17EDC” to save $350 on the standard price.

Businesses have some tough decisions ahead related to their identity and access management (IAM) strategy. They’re under tremendous pressure to rapidly secure their environments and progress toward establishing a zero trust architecture.

As part of this, they need to figure out how to secure their “non-standard apps” – the dozens of homegrown, legacy and open source solutions that don’t support modern access security protocols. Can they bring these into their secure environment – with single sign-on (SSO) and multifactor authentication (MFA) – quickly and without a costly development effort?

At the same time, they can’t undermine productivity by implementing burdensome processes that frustrate developers and users alike, and they need to do all this while conserving budgets. That’s a lot to juggle.

And it’s why I’m so excited that the Datawiza team – vaccination cards in hand – will be attending the Gartner Identity & Access Management Summit 2022 in Las Vegas on August 22-24. I think this is one of the best security conferences of the year because it brings together a great combination of vendors and analysts to address what companies really care about – achieving access security without sacrificing the business.

It’s also a great opportunity to explore what the ideal IAM environment looks like for you – and how you can make some significant progress over the short term without breaking the bank – including the use of no-code/low-code strategies.

Any company facing IAM challenges should attend this conference. And once you’re there, here are my top 5 things to do to make the most of your time.

1. Take advantage of the included receptions and meals for networking

Even if I’m up late at a fabulous Las Vegas show or trying my luck at a casino, I’ll hustle to get to the registration and breakfast early rather than rushing in just as a session starts. It’s a great time to scan the room for old friends and make some new ones. In fact, all the networking at the conference events hold unlimited possibilities to meet many of the session presenters and make new connections that may play an important role in the future of your business.

2. Meet some of my favorite IAM experts

Gartner analysts are some of the brightest folks in the industry. If you have a chance, connect with:

  • Gartner Senior Director Analyst Henrique Teixeira. Truly the Apollo of the IAM summit, he’ll be delivering:
    • How to Choose an Access Management Solution: Using the MQ and Beyond on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
    • Ask the Expert: Everything You Always Wanted to Know About CIEM, that You Can’t Find on Google on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
    • What’s Next in Cloud Identity Risks? CIEM and Beyond on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
    • Ask the Expert: Access Management and Decentralized Identity on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
    • Outlook for Identity and Access Management on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.
  • Senior Director Analyst Erik Wahlstrom. A tremendous resource on IAM architecture, Erik will be presenting:
    • The State of Access Management, 2022 on Monday at 11:00 a.m.
    • Improve IAM Architecture by Embracing 10 Identity Fabric Principles on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.
    • Ask the Expert: Which Modern Identity Protocols Should I Use? OAuth 2.0, OIDC, OPA, JWT or SCIM? on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
    • Machine Identities, Secrets, Keys and Certificates — The Team, the Process and the Tools on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m.
    • API Access Control 201: Architect a Modern API Access Control Strategy on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
    • Ask the Expert: How do I Manage my Machine Identities? on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.

3. Check out the Datawiza booth and book a one-on-one meeting via the conference dashboard

Yes, you’re in Vegas, but don’t gamble on your data security when you can secure all of your enterprise applications in minutes with Datawiza’s no-code platform. We’ll be in booth #110, so I hope you’ll stop by. Not as extravagant as Cleopatra’s Barge but ever more useful, we’ll be showing how easy it is to use cloud-agnostic Datawiza to bring non-standard apps into a modern security environment and support SSO and MFA – and yes, really, you can do it in minutes! Scheduling a one-on-one meeting is also the perfect opportunity to see exactly how Datawiza can solve your specific access management challenges – TODAY – and how easily it fits within your particular architecture and application portfolio.

4. Attend some great sessions on how to secure your applications

I wish I could attend just about every session at this conference, but here are the top three I definitely won’t miss:

  • Ask the Expert: Which Modern Identity Protocols Should I Use? OAuth 2.0, OIDC, OPA, JWT or SCIM? on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
  • An IAM Program Is Critical to a Zero Trust Strategy – Ramon Krikken, Gartner Managing Vice President on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
  • Outlook for Identity and Access Management – Henrique Teixeira, Gartner Senior Director Analyst on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.

5. Get some world-class eats!

Buffets are so very Vegas, but I’m looking forward to sitting down at Gordon Ramsey’s Hell’s Kitchen. I can’t get enough Beef Wellington, and those smoke box cocktails? Where else but Vegas?
