Unexpected Inflection Point

For decades, those of us who work on the infrastructure of the web have heard and talked a lot about “inflection points” — points at which we have seen notable increases in Internet usage driven by commerce, entertainment, financial services, travel, etc. And now, without warning, the world changed. Every industry has been disrupted in a matter of weeks, and the world is likely never to be quite the same again.

But this isn’t the first time we’ve all gone through change in our digital strategy. Retailers, financial services companies, OTT providers, game developers, and media publishers are just a few of the sectors that have seen major disruption over the past 20 years, and they have evolved to face each disruption. What have we learned that we can apply to this unprecedented change in the way we work, play, and live?

I hope you’ll join us on April 7 or 8 for Akamai Edge Live: Virtual Summit. We’ve got some great sessions planned, and I’ll be there with my colleague, Adam Karon, Executive Vice President and General Manager of our Media and Carrier business, to talk about these periods of massive global change we’ve seen our customers adapt to during our time at Akamai. There are many lessons in the way our customers have faced disruption in the past. I look forward to speaking with you at our virtual summit.
