WeAreDelphix: Meet Vanessa Negrete

What do you do at Delphix and what inspired you to join the company? 

I am a HR coordinator and office manager for both our offices in the Bay Area. I manage everything facilities-related, help plan events across our global offices, and keep the team well-fed and happy. I also support our HR team with onboarding new staff and maintaining employee records.

I joined Delphix shortly after I graduated from Santa Clara University with a B.S. in Anthropology and Psychology. I have always been fascinated by how people interact and why they make the decisions that they do, and HR seemed like a perfect way to transform that passion into a career. 

At Delphix, I am always learning from my fellow colleagues and I have grown quite a bit since I joined in October 2018. My role is unique in that I get to interact with people from every department in all our offices around the world. I love all of the different personalities I encounter and developing relationships with my coworkers is my favorite part of the job. The people at Delphix are truly what makes this company special, and I look forward to supporting the team in new and exciting ways.

You can ask me anything about…? 

Beekeeping! My parents, brother, and I are beekeepers and currently have a hive in San Jose. Bees are truly amazing little insects and have a whole world of their own. I am so passionate about them that I have one tattooed on my arm. Before you ask—yes, I’ve been stung (only once though), and yes, I wear a full suit when I work with the bees. They aren’t out to get you, but it’s better to be safe than stung. 

Fun fact: In the summer when honeycombs get very hot, bees will collect drops of water and smear it on the comb, so the evaporation cools the comb, preventing the wax from melting.

What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on at Delphix? 

A few months after I started at Delphix, I was asked to help plan the holiday party in San Francisco. I had a great time getting to know my teammates more as we worked together to make the big event happen smoothly. 

We chose the menu, booked an awesome band, and picked a great photobooth. 

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? 

One of the best pieces of wisdom I’ve ever read was actually from the Lord of the Rings: “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.” It reminds me that our time is precious and that what we do with the time we are given is the most important decision we have to make. My family has seen some hard times, and those times really put my life into perspective. Who knows what will happen tomorrow, but at least today was amazing.

“Bonita” by Juanes, or really anything by Juanes is amazing.

What drives you everyday? 

The need to learn and grow drives me to work hard every day. My amazing HR team inspires me with their dedication to the employees of this company, and I learn something new from them every day. I have always loved to learn new skills, and I am happy to be in a position that allows me to do so on a daily basis.
