Spotlight on Security and Sunshine at AppSec California

For us, 2019 was about progress. As a banner year, we achieved significant revenue growth, doubled our customer base, expanded our amazing leadership team and rolled out exciting new platform enhancements. The year 2020 is already off to a great start, as we announce our first new customer of the year, Bidpath, along with the news that this leading global auction software company will now strengthen their future security programs using the ZeroNorth platform. So what are we doing now? We’re going to Disneyland! Well, not exactly. We’re headed to the west coast for a dose of security and sunshine at AppSec California!

For those unfamiliar with the conference, AppSec California is a one-of-a-kind experience for information security professionals, developers and QA and testing professionals who gather in Santa Monica to learn and share knowledge about secure systems and development methodologies. Held on January 21-24, the seventh annual event will feature an exciting mix of technical talks by security, DevOps and cloud experts, hands-on learning sessions, panel discussions, keynotes, a vendor expo showcasing the latest AppSec innovations, networking opportunities and fun evening events galore. And did we mention the whole conference takes place in a beach house with an ocean view?!

Come Along With Us
Throughout four, jam-packed days, attendees will explore hot topics around application security and risk management, DevSecOps, continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD pipelines), microservices, cloud architecture and much more. There’s something for everyone!

For the first two days of AppSec California, it’s all about training and interactive learning. Attendees can dig into building secure APIs and web applications, while exploring practical approaches for implementing security across CI/CD pipelines in a DevSecOps MasterClass—plus much more.

Thursday kicks off with a keynote, then attendees can choose from a wide variety of tracks throughout the day—including a lightening talk on DevSecOps-enabled micro-perimeter API protection and a tutorial on continuous cloud security monitoring. There will also be a panel discussion on what it takes to write secure code and an examination of open source and the shifting battlefield of attacks based on OSS consumption. The two-day vendor expo also opens Thursday and ZeroNorth will have a booth there demonstrating our platform.

The conference concludes on Friday, but attendees won’t want to miss this full day of education and insight. Explore a lightning talk on modern application security approaches to drive secure digital transformation, a developer’s journey from worrying about CI to loving the cloud, a how-to guide on effectively scaling security, a talk on how Javascript frameworks impact the security of applications—and much more.

We’re particularly excited for this year’s keynote speakers, including:

  • Former Facebook CSO, now Stanford University researcher and prolific security blogger Alex Stamos, who is not afraid to tackle tough issues around tech, cyber warfare and society.
  • Famous privacy and security researcher, computer hacker and whistleblower Samy Kamkar, who is best known for creating the MySpace worm, the fastest spreading virus of all time. He’ll present the closing keynote, Browser Manipulation for Firewalls.
  • Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) director of cybersecurity Eva Galperin, who focuses on providing privacy and security for vulnerable populations around the world. She’s also known for her extensive research on malware and nation-state spyware.
  • Former CISO for Atlanta and information security governance guru Taiye Lambo, who has helped global organizations build successful security programs through the integration of internationally accepted best practices.

AppSec California is hosted by the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP), an open source, not-for-profit application security organization made up of corporations, educational organizations and individuals from around the world. Its mission is to make application security visible, so that people and organizations can make informed decisions about true application security risks. Everyone is free to participate in OWASP, and all of its materials are available under a free and open software license.
