WhiteHat Security Names Former Appthority, FlawCheck CEO Anthony Bettini Chief Technology Officer

The application and mobile security startup veteran will oversee the company’s technological resources during an exciting period of growth

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 14, 2019 WhiteHat Security, an independent subsidiary of NTT Security and the leading application security provider committed to securing applications that run enterprise businesses, today announced that former Appthority and FlawCheck Founder & CEO Anthony Bettini has been named chief technology officer (CTO). Bettini brings more than 20 years of cybersecurity industry experience with a significant track record in application and mobile security. Reporting directly to WhiteHat CEO Craig Hinkley, he will be responsible for leading the technology and engineering teams and developing, implementing, managing and evaluating the company’s technological resources.

Prior to joining WhiteHat in November 2019, Bettini led Tenable Research at Tenable, where he was in charge of 15 teams and approximately 100 people. He was previously founder and CEO of FlawCheck, the first-to-market application security product for container security until it was acquired by Tenable in 2016. He held the position through inception, all product launches and the booking of all enterprise customers and played a key role in acquisition negotiation processes. In addition, he co-wrote pieces of FlawCheck’s software composition analysis (SCA) and static application security testing (SAST) products in Scala, Python and Golang.

Before FlawCheck’s launch, he founded and served as CEO of Appthority, a leading mobile security startup that was acquired by Symantec in 2014 and was a previous winner of the “Most Innovative Company of the Year” award at the RSA Conference.

As Appthority’s CEO, he led the raising of its first infusion of venture capital, all early product launches and winning the first 50+ customers and partners until moving to a CTO role. At Appthority, he co-wrote pieces of its static analysis & dynamic analysis-based mobile security offering.  In addition, he has held management positions at major security and technology corporations, including Intel and McAfee.

“Application security is virtually in my DNA, and I’m honored to join the WhiteHat team as the company further establishes itself as a highly trusted leader in the space,” said Bettini. “I look forward to incorporating my expertise from building cybersecurity companies from the ground up and keeping up with the latest threats into WhiteHat’s technology and business practices.”

Bettini’s appointment comes during a period of exciting growth for WhiteHat. The company was officially acquired by NTT Security in July 2019, with the goal of providing comprehensive, game-changing cybersecurity solutions to help companies address the demands of their digital transformation initiatives. As the leading application security company, WhiteHat combines artificial and human intelligence to enable continuous security across the software development life cycle (SDLC). Together, WhiteHat and NTT Security are addressing modern enterprise security needs that will protect businesses from outside attacks and threats to their applications.

“We are thrilled to welcome Anthony to the WhiteHat ranks as we grow both our product portfolio and global threat intelligence resources,” said Hinkley. “His experience in bringing application security companies and solutions to life, as well as his deep expertise in cyberthreat research, will be invaluable. We will be fully utilizing his knowledge to further our mission to secure the applications that run businesses today.”
