Cellebrite, the iPhone, and Android

Thomas Fox-Brewster for Forbes: The Feds Can Now (Probably) Unlock Every iPhone Model In Existence

“In what appears to be a major breakthrough for law enforcement, and a possible privacy problem for Apple customers, a major U.S. government contractor claims to have found a way to unlock pretty much every iPhone on the market.”

In fact, the article seems to be mostly focused on iOS 11 and the iPhone X, but Cellebrite documentation on its Advanced  Unlocking and Extraction Services as specifying devices running iOS 5 to iOS 11 as being vulnerable to its attentions, as well as a range of devices running Android.

I can’t comment on the technical feasibility of the claim, but it certainly opens up some cans of worms.
