JumpCloud’s Directory-as-a-Service® is simple to use, but the actual architecture of the platform is quite complex. To help shed a light on the mechanics underpinning our cloud directory, JumpCloud’s Chief Product Officer Greg Keller has started a whiteboard video series in which he details different components of Directory-as-a-Service and how each one works. In this episode of the series, Greg takes a step back to discuss the architecture of our cloud-based directory. More on JumpCloud’s IAM Protocols and Architecture
One of the main points that Greg touches on in the video is the wide variety of protocols that JumpCloud leverages. These protocols are the foundation of our cloud-based directory, and are what allow our platform to support so much when it comes to associating resources to a centralized user identity. These protocols include:
Each of these different supported protocols help extend the reach of Directory-as-a-Service to a wide variety of IT resources, so that admins can do everything they need from one centralized control panel. This includes user management, event logging, command execution, MFA, and more from the JumpCloud Agent, web application SSO and access management to those apps with the SAML 2.0 protocol, application or resource access management through LDAP, cloud network and VPN authentication through RADIUS, and directory integrations with G Suite and O365 through OAuth and APIs.
This multi-protocol approach unifies the identity management process, resulting in each employee having one set of credentials that grant them access to everything they need. In addition, this setup is beneficial when it comes to offboarding as well. With this centralized approach, admins simply need to disable access to the one user account in JumpCloud to cut off access to all of their different resources.
