I’m glad to announce that Ory Segal is joining PureSec as CTO.

Ory is a founding member of Sanctum’s Security Team, one of the world’s first application security research groups (originally known as BlackWatch Labs ). His team was directly responsible for generating awareness to many web vulnerabilities, in the early days of Application Security. Sanctum invented the first Web application firewall – AppShield, and the first commercial Web application scanning software – AppScan. After the merger with Watchfire and acquisition by IBM, Ory served as a Security Products Architect and the product leader of AppScan at IBM. There, Ory was part of the development of Dynamic Application Security Testing, Static Analysis for Security and “Glassbox” (IAST) scanning technology. In 2010 Ory won an IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Award.

Until recently, Ory was a Senior Directory of Threat Research in Akamai. There, he managed a team of application security researchers who built the logic and content of Akamai’s web security solutions. The team under his lead dealt with security big-data covering more than 30% of all internet traffic, and has gained expertise in security big data analytics and machine learning, as well as web application layer security, behavioral analysis, client and device fingerprinting, and other fields crucial for securing modern web applications.

Ory’s contribution enabled to position Akamai as a leader in Gartner’s WAF magic quadrant, and drove Akamai’s security business from an emerging product to a business with an annualized revenue run rate of nearly $0.5 Billion.

Ory has filed numerous patents in the field of application security. He is a serving as officer of the Web Application Security Consortium (WASC), and is a former OWASP (Israel) board member. He participated in many projects in the field, including SANS Top 25 , “Web Application Firewall Evaluation Criteria“, and as a member of NIST focus group on web app scanning.

Ory has repeatedly presented in various conferences worldwide – Cybertech, RSA Conference, OWASP Appsec, Gartner Security Summit, Code-Blue (Japan), BlackHat and more.

The connection between Ory and PureSec was created by Adi Sharabani – Skycure CEO (acquired by Symantec). Meeting him, it took a brief moment to understand that Ory will be a game changer for PureSec’s growing team.

Ory brings profound technical knowledge, vast understanding of the trends in application security and a passion to join the Serverless revolution.

We are thrilled to have him on our team and believe that as CTO he will contribute greatly to taking PureSec and it’s Serverless security solution to new heights.
