5 Tips for Surviving AWS reInvent 2015

There are only a couple more weeks before AWS re:Invent, and we hope you are looking forward to a week of new announcements, valuable technical sessions, fun activities, and more. With over 19,000 registrants, AWS has definitely raised the bar this year. Since Alert Logic is a veteran of all things re:Invent, check out these top 5 tips on how to survive re:Invent week from Amanda Russell, Manager, Partner Marketing.

  1. Be early.
Cross badge pick up and swag hunting off your list early by arriving before everyone else. One of the major perks of arriving at re:Invent early is that you can join some pretty legit bootcamps, training sessions and certification exams put on by the folks at AWS. You’ll be able to leave Las Vegas with some new skills and make your coworkers back home even more envious of your time on the Las Vegas Strip.

To add these additional sessions to your agenda, login to your AWS re:Invent account with the credentials you created during registration and click on “Purchase Additional Registration Items.”

  2. Navigate the trade show floor like a boss.
Between sessions, wander the re:Invent trade show floor and check out the maze of booths. First things first, you’ll want to stop and chat with AWS in the Developer Lounge to learn more about their products and services. After you reach a state of enlightenment, make sure you enter the myriad of cool giveaways and bring a bag for all of the swag!

When you’ve reached capacity of pens and other trinkets, come by the Alert Logic booth #209 (near the Developer Lounge) to meet Stephen Coty, our Chief Security Evangelist, grab a cool t-shirt and most importantly, get your Hackover Pub Crawl pass.

Plus, learn how to protect your applications running on AWS with Alert Logic Cloud Insight and Alert Logic Cloud Defender. Can’t get enough of application security and want to talk to someone else who is equally as excited? Schedule an appointment with one of our Alert Logic experts here.

  3. Plan Your Schedule in Advance.
What would a tradeshow be without great sessions? Plan your schedule around the sessions you want to see. Use the Session Catalog (here) to find sessions and log into your AWS re:Invent account to add them to your Schedule or download them to your calendar.

All sessions are first come, first served, but most of the popular ones fill up well in advance. So, a word to the wise is to sign up before you show up.

There are tons of other cool sessions that you’ll want to join, starting with some of 3 of our top picks below:

    • SEC320 – AWS Security Beyond the Host: Leveraging the Power of AWS to Automate Security and Compliance
    • SEC402 – Enterprise Cloud Security via DevSecOps 2.0
    • STG401 – Amazon S3 Deep Dive and Best Practices

Get the scoop on the entire agenda and plan your schedule accordingly.

  4. Don’t be Tardy for the Parties.
The coveted AWS Pub Crawl starts on Wednesday, October 7 from 5:30-7:30PM and includes some of the trendiest spots in the Venetian and Palazzo. Map out were you’d like to go since historically, most of the popular parties reach capacity if you show up late. It’s a well-known fact that Alert Logic throws the best parties during re:Invent and the Pub Crawl is no exception.

Come join us for our Hackover Party and make sure to get there early for giveaways, drinks, food and the chance to meet a surprise guest. Get on the list by clicking here.

  5. Follow & Share.
Can’t make it to Vegas? You’re in luck; AWS provides a free live stream of the keynotes and the top breakout sessions. Sign up to be a part of the action from afar.
